GINZA avenue is the most famous and lively in Japan with a lot of department
stores, shops, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. of the first class.
Its length is about 2 kilometers from north to south.
Three Tokyo subways such as Ginza, Hibiya and Marunouchi line come in there and
Yurakucho station of JR Yamanote loop line is also 5 minutes walk form the center
of Ginza street.
GINZA means a mint of silver coins because there used to be a mint during Edo
period from 1603 to 1867.
This avenue is ideal for everybody to walk along enjoying to watch merchandise of
high quality on display and pedestrians' fashion, because there are few pickpockets,
thieves and robbers.
In this district a big fire occurred in 1872 and the government planned to construct
a modern and westernized avenue with brick buildings, what is a start of modern

This is Ginza 4-chome intersection is the center of Ginza avenue. You see Wako department
store at left and Mitsukoshi department store at right over the traffic lights.
Ginza subway line passes just under the avenue and its Ginza station is just under this crossing.
We also has other two department stores such as Matsuya and Matsuzakaya near the intersection.

You see a big department store, Matuya,
at the opposite side of the avenue in the center.

This place is a final point of Tokyo excursion by

station and we see the trees of the Imperial
Place Plaza at the end of this street.

There are famous shops such as LOUIS VUITTON, FENDI, PRADA, DIOR, etc. at the
first floor of Matsuya department store and Bvlgari
shop at its northern side.

We have so-called pedestrian paradise on every Saturday and Sunday as the police stops vehicles' traffic to come in the avenue.
