OMOTESANDO generally means "frontal approach to shrine or temple".
Actually OMOTESANDO avenue is the frontal approach of 1.1 km long to MEIJI
shrine
and was constructed in 1919 before the completion of the shrine in 1920.
TAKESHITA street had been a residential street in1970s. However the street
now has
many fashion shops for younger generations with 350 meter long.
The avenue and the street are about 100 meters away passing parallelly
from JR Harajuku
station of Yamanote loop line. GINZA, CHIYODA , FUKUTOSHIN and HAZOMON
subway
lines also pass under or near OMOTESANDO avenue.
It takes 4 minutes from JR SHINJUKU and 14 minutes from SHINAGAWA to JR HARAJUKU
station by Yamanote loop line.
Generally the shops there open at 11:00 and close at 20:00 there.
