ZOJOJI TEMPLE AND TOKYO TOWER

ZOJOJI Buddhist temple and TOKYO tower are together in Shinagawa ward.
The temple is a few minutes on foot from Shiba-Koen station of Mita municipal subway line
and 6 minutes from Hamamatsu-cho station of JR Yamanote loop line.
Tokyo tower is behind the temple.
The temple was constructed in 1393, moved to the present place by TOKUGAWA Ieyasu,
great feudal lord in 1598 and designated as for the Tokugawas.
Therefore six (6) shoguns of Tokugawas and their consorts among 15 shoguns were
buried at the mausoleum of the temple.
On the other hand, Tokyo tower was constructed in 1958 for retransmission of television
when the number of television viewers was rapidly increasing and then many Japanese
wanted to watch the imperial marriage ceremony between ex-emperor Akihito and
commoner, Michiko, ex-empress in 1959. They are now 87 and 86 years old.
Tokyo tower is 333 meters high with two observation decks of 150 y 223 meters high
from where we can look out cental capital and Tokyo bay.

The rainbow bridge and Odaiba Islet are seen far.

Tokyo tower had been serving retransmission of television and radio since 1959.
Its height is 333 meters (1,092ft), 17 meters higher than Effel tower in Paris, Five story building is
under the tower with many shops, restaurants, cafeterias, ticketing office of the observatory
