ITSUKUSHIMA(MIYAJIMA) ISLAND

ITSUKUSHIMA island with a population of 1,800 habitants is one of the three most beautiful
scenic places in Japan as well as Matsushima islands and Amano Hashidade sandbank.
The island itself has been the object of religious belief or in other word the island has been
sacred for years. For that reason, ITSUKUSHIMA shrine was constructed on the shore in 593
and expanded to the present scale by TAIRA No Kiyomori, head of great clan of samurai
in 1168. Each year more than 3 million tourists visit the island due to its scenic beauty and
ITSUKUSHIMA shrine. we get there directly from Hiroshima by boat or train and ferry boat
in less than one hour.

The island has two lines of cable car system which carry us to Shishigoiwa observatory
of 500 meters high from the sea level and there we enjoy overlooking Inland sea
and Shikoku Island.
